Hey all! I know I usually take the weekend off, but I wanted to give you a heads up on the Humboldt Soap Company Raspberry Shortbread Shampoo Bar, as it will be available via Amazon Prime Day July 15 and 16. I previously reviewed their Cremeplexion Moisturizer and I JUST finished my jar! I was browsing their site, and I am loving Humboldt's attention to the environment. I noticed a refill of the moisturizer in a cellulose bags! HOW COOL?! I plan to definitely grab that! But today, I'm focusing on the shampoo bars, so let's check out my review.

Shampoo bars are great for travel (no need to worry about liquid limitations) but they are also great for the environment! Not plastic! Straight from Arice, the owner and creator behind Humboldt Soap Company: "HSC shampoo bars are soap free and handcrafted using the best Vegan, mild, cleansing and conditioning ingredients for your hair." I only just received this item, and since I don't wash my hair everyday, I washed my hair once and so did my partner.

HSC Shampoo Bars contain:
  • NO Sulfates
  • NO Parabens
  • NO Phthalates
  • NO Cocamidopropyl Betaine
  • NO Glycerin
  • NO Water
  • NO Colorants
  • NO Preservatives
  • Certified Cruelty Free (Leaping Bunny)
  • Compostable Cellulose Packaging

Now, let's get to the ingredients these shampoo bars DO have!

All from the maker herself. I've shortened some of this, so head to their webside for more info.
  • "Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is an extremely gentle surfactant and emulsifier. It’s a sodium salt derived from coconut oil.
  • Fruit Powder Mango is high in vitamin C, which promotes healthy hair and skin.
  • Raspberries contain folic acid which is great for inducing hair growth and making your hair shinier. Raspberries also contain vitamin C which has been shown to be very beneficial in maintaining a healthy scalp.
  • Cetyl alcohol is one of the most common fatty alcohols in hair products. This particular alcohol is an emollient and is known to soften your skin and hair. It also provides slip to conditioners which allows us to detangle our hair better.
  • Panthenol behaves in some ways more like a protein than a vitamin. When you wash your hair with a product containing panthenol, the ingredient penetrates the hair shaft, and helps to improve moisture retention.
  • Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol is naturally derived from rapeseed oil.
  • Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate 100% natural, vegetable derived, esterification of glycerols and stearic acid.
  • Stearic Acid is a natural fatty acid that coats the hair shaft, giving it condition and protection without making it dull or heavy.
  • Abyssinian Oil contains an abundance of both Linoleic and Linolenic Acids, a high percentage of an Omega-9 fatty acid that helps to give hair a glossy feel and provides your hair with natural protection against the elements and assists in detangling.
  • Macadamia Nut Oil fatty acid content is the real winner for skin and hair. Those fatty acids help to add shine, strengthen, and nourish the hair follicles, which in turn fight off hair loss and brittle strands. Macadamia oil is great for calming the hair of frizz, tangles, and dullness.
  • Amla Oil helps get rid of dry flakes from the scalp and dissolves grease and dirt from the follicles, improving overall scalp health.
  • Vegan Friendly Keratin Protein extract of corn, wheat and soy to strengthen and enhance the elasticity of individual hair strands and reduce the "fly away" hair syndrome. As an additional benefit, keratin protein holds antioxidant benefits."

OK, now that you have all that info, let's get to my review!

I have incredibly long hair and it's fairly thin. I've only ever tried one shampoo bar before, and it made my hair feel like straw. So I was a little nervous to try this shampoo bar and not to use conditioner! The scent of this is Raspberry Shortbread, which is awesome. I was nervous I would smell like a baked good, but it was a subtle shortbread that cuts the tartness of the raspberry.

I took the bar out of the compostable packaging and rubbed it between my hands. The first use takes a few rubs to get the lather, but it basically activated and hello! I lathered the top of my head and worked down to my ends. I let it stay in my hair for like two minutes and then I rinsed it out. I did not condition.

I let my hair air dry because it was so humid on Friday and I was shocked how soft my hair felt! I really thought it would be rough. My hair was soft and actually had a decent amount of volume for being air dried. My hair smelled delicious! Today is the next day and I skipped washing because my hair still feels so nice! I am really impressed with how my hair looks and feels!

Mr. Ehmkay also tried out this shampoo bar. He has longer hair for a male (but it's not long for say, a female--I would say his hair is the length of Bradley Cooper in the Hangover movie LOL). All I'm saying is he has hair to shampoo! He also liked the lather and felt his hair was super clean. He didn't experience any knotting in his hair and it dried looking gorgeous! He also loved the scent!
