Meghan's maternity wardrobe cost over £500k, seven times more than Kate spent during her pregnancy - Daily Mail |
Posted: 21 Mar 2019 12:00 AM PDT Many expectant mothers try not to splash out too much on maternity clothes that they might not wear again for a long time, if ever, but when you're royal then you need a wardrobe to match the job. And the Duchess of Sussex, 37, has certainly made sure her bump was well dressed throughout her first pregnancy, with her maternity outfits totting up to an eye-watering £514,000 ($675,000). Researchers from fashion comparison website lovethesales.com totted up the cost of 75 outfits Meghan has worn between early in her pregnancy in August to her final engagement before maternity leave at Westminster Abbey last week. The calculations include estimates for some of the bespoke creations she has worn over recent months but not all, meaning the actual value could be much higher. Items not estimated include the black one shoulder gown she wore to the British Fashion Awards or the green Erdem coat she wore for a visit to Canada House last week. And as Meghan is a fan of re-wearing jewellery, each piece has only been added to the overall total once, although they might contribute to the value of several outfits. ![]() Meghan's most expensive outfit came early in her pregnancy, during the royal's trip to Tonga. Her evening look came to a total of £84,660.36 ($111,496), with her white Theia dress (pictured) costing £750 ($984), black clutch £1,499 ($1,969), shoes £565 ($741) and her ring worth a staggering £74,893 ($98,420) Some of the most expensive outfits over the past eight months have included evening wear worn during royal tours of Morocco, Australia and Oceania during her pregnancy. And she rarely wears the same outfits twice, selecting new outfits from favourite designers such as Givenchy and Victoria Beckham on almost every appearance. Her maternity wardrobe is further boosted by decadent jewellery, which adds financial value to several of her outfits. At Princess Eugenie's wedding, she accessorised her navy Givenchy coat with rings worth thousands, perhaps to distract from speculation she might be expecting. ![]() Meghan's evening outfit during her tour of Fiji was worth an estimated £22,882 ($30,070). Pictured, a SAFiYAA 'Ginkgo' cape dress: £1,095 ($1,439); Butani Diamond drop earrings: £21,326 ($28,024); Manolo Blahnik BB navy stilettos: £471 ($619) Unlike thrifty Kate, who is known for reworking and wearing outfits again, Meghan has worn few items more than once over the past eight months. The only item that's been a true wardrobe stalwart for Meghan is an £892 ($1,172) Amanda Wakeley Sculpted Coat, which she's sported three times. Meghan also owns a variety of pumps in different colours from shoe brand Aquazzura and, although she rarely repeats an outfit, these have been seen on multiple outings. ![]() Meghan tends to wear designer dresses and expensive jewellery for evening events - such as this outfit in Morocco. Pictured: a Carolina Herrera custom dress: approx £2,252 ($2,959); Gianvito Rossi satin pumps: approx £510 ($670); Dior D-Bee Gold Satin Clutch: £1,389.84 ($1827); Earrings: £12,430 ($16,337); Rings: £4,510 ($5,928) While she often borrows decadent jewelry from the royal family, she also loves Pippa Small, and is often photographed wearing the Canadian designer's studs and bangles. But she does have expensive tastes, with her priciest maternity outfit worn early on in her pregnancy, during the royal tour in Tonga. Meghan wore a stunning white Theia gown for the final evening, and paired it with a black clutch and pumps, as well as glittering jewelry. The outfit totted up to over £84,660 ($111,496), thanks largely to the addition of the late Princess Diana's aquamarine ring. ![]() This outfit from the recent Commonwealth Service was estimated to be worth over £12,000 ($15,769) in total. Pictured: Victoria Beckham Printed Crepe Long Sleeve Midi dress: £1,668 ($2,192); Victoria Beckham clutch: £1,499 ($1,969); Victoria Beckham shoes: £565 ($742). Amanda Wakeley Sculpted Coat: £892 ($1,172) The ring, believed to be worth £74,893 ($98,420), was teamed with her glittering Birks Snowstorm diamond earrings, costing £7,137.36 ($9,393). And it's not just evening wear that's pushed up the value of Meghan's wardrobe. The pieces she has worn for formal royal occasions have also proved pricey. Most recently, a Victoria Beckham outfit worn for the Commonwealth Service was worth an estimated £12,175 ($16,023) in total. Meghan is expected to give birth in the spring, and is now thought to be on maternity leave from her royal duties. Last week Kensington Palace said she would continue to take meetings and may take part in further engagements, but confirmed there was nothing scheduled. This week she and Prince Harry paid a visit to New Zealand House in London to sign a book of condolence for victims of the Christchurch Terror Attack.
