3 Ways To Wear A Square Scarf This Fall

I’ve never been a big fan of blanket scarves because they tend to overwhelm my frame and I end up feeling slightly claustrophobic in them.  So, before the weather gets cold to the point that I actually need a long knit scarf, I’ll be sprucing up my daily looks with the classic square scarf.

I’ve accumulated quite the collection of them over the last 10 years & they’ve quickly become one of my must-have accessories.  It’s one of my favorite things to look for at vintage shops or while thrifting, but there are dozens of affordable options on Amazon too!  Of course, you can tie one onto the handle of a handbag, but here are a few more ways I like to wear mine:

IN YOUR HAIR

I’ve been doing this for years and it’s the perfect way to disguise a bad hair day.  Throw your hair in a low bun & wrap the scarf around it (just knot the ends), put it up in a high ponytail and conceal the elastic with a scarf or do a pretty half-up style (like I did below) & let the ends of the scarf drape down.

AROUND YOUR NECK

This is great for adding a pop of color or pattern to any outfit + it instantly makes it look more polished and sophisticated.  I like to roll my scarf diagonally (from one corner to the other) and then tie it around my neck in a square knot (left over right & pull through, then right over left & knot it).  Doing it this way ensures there isn’t too much fabric bunching around your neck and the ends will lay flat nicely.

AS A MASK

If you already have a small square scarf that you love, you can easily turn it into a DIY mask – no sewing needed!  As someone who owns several vintage scarves, I like that I can create masks that are unique and suit each outfit without having to buy more face masks at the store – repurposing what you already own is so much better!  Here is the simple tutorial I followed to create the mask in the photo below.
